Jenniffer Gonzalez announces $18.5 million for health services and Head Start

Washington, D.C. - Congresswoman Jenniffer González Colón, announced several allocations of federal funds that add up to $ 18,541,607 from the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) for training of medical personnel, for Centers for Control and Disease Prevention (CDC), for a PHSU Specialized Center in Health Disparities, the National Cancer Institute, for research for mothers and children and for child care services.

The Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) under the Administration for Children and Families allocated $ 9,539,841 to the Administration for Integral Child Care Development under the Disaster Assistance funds to Head Start and Early Head Start centers within the social services program.

Under the funds allocated by HHS for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention / Research-National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) -OH program, the University of Puerto Rico Medical Sciences Campus received $149,476 for training programs.

Moreover, HHS within the program of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention / CDC-NCIRD National Center for Immunization and Respiratory Diseases (IP) granted $4,036,563 to the Puerto Rico Department of Health under the program of immunization and vaccines for children.

The Ponce School of Medicine received several allocations of federal funds under different programs. The National Institute on Minority Health and Health Disparities of the Department of Health and Human Services of the United States allocated $4,386,494 to the Ponce School of Medicine for the PHSU project Center Specialized in Health Disparities. The National Cancer Institute awarded the Ponce School of Medicine $ 226,423 under the cancer cause and prevention research program. The Eunice Kennedy Shriver National Institute of Child Health and Human Development allocated $ 202,810 to the Ponce School of Medicine under the mothers and children research program for the enriched environments project: a multi-level integrative medicine intervention for endometriosis.
