Jenniffer González announces nomination of US Magistrate Judge Silvia Carreño-Coll to federal judge of the US District Court of Puerto Rico

San Juan, Puerto Rico - Congresswoman Jenniffer González Colón, announced her support to the nomination of magistrate Silvia Carreño-Coll by President Donald Trump to serve as federal judge of the US District Court of Puerto Rico; since 2011,Carreño -Coll has been a US Magistrate Judge on the island.

"We have recommended and the President has just nominated US Magistrate Judge Silvia Carreño Coll as judge of the US District Court of Puerto Rico. Her professionalism, integrity and career in the public service on the Island, make her the ideal candidate to take on this role, "stated the congresswoman.

Silvia Carreño-Coll has held several positions before being appointed US Magistrate including Associate Regional Counsel for the EPA's Caribbean program; Special Assistant US Attorney for the District Court of Puerto Rico; Special Assistant US Attorney for the District Court of Puerto Rico under the Civil and Criminal division and Trial Attorney for the Puerto Rico Department of Justice in the Federal Litigation Division.

Mrs.Carreño-Coll has a bachelor's degree from Emerson College; later, and a Juris Doctor degree from the University of Puerto Rico School of Law..

Carreño-Coll has received multiple awards recognizing her work including the New York Federal Executive Board Award for outstanding service for the prosecution of asbestos contamination in Puerto Rico Department of Education schools as well as several awards by the Department of Justice and the Environmental Protection Agency for their performance.
