June 16, 2022

San Juan, Puerto Rico - The Republican Party of Puerto Rico presented Resident Commissioner Jenniffer González Colón with the Luis A. Ferré Award, in recognition of her leadership throughout a career in the struggle for Equality in Puerto Rico, during the inaugural edition of the GOP Awards.

“Since I began my career in public service, Equality has been my goal. I receive this award with great humility; more than just a job, or beyond a platform, for me it is a privilege to be able to be the voice of millions of Puerto Ricans who claim their right to receive equal treatment with that of their compatriots residing in the United States. As long as the claim for statehood continues, I will continue by all means to look for results,” said the Resident Commissioner.

The award was presented by the Chair of the Republican Party in Puerto Rico, Ángel Cintrón, who also presented the Ronald Reagan Award to Former Governor Luis Fortuño, for his dedication and work at the national level in favor of Statehood and the Rafael Martínez Nadal award to Zoraida Fonalledas, for her dedication to the statehood cause and support for education and participation in the political process.

Congresswoman González Colón gave the main speech of the event. She detailed the Congressional path to Puerto Rico’s decolonization, contained in the Puerto Rico Status Act bill draft, as well as the House agenda to bring this legislative piece to consideration on the Floor.
