Jenniffer Gonzalez celebrates Thanksgiving with the troops in Kuwait

November 23, 2018

As a member of the Veterans Affairs Committee of the United States House of Representatives, the resident commissioner, Jenniffer González Colón, went with the United States Ambassador to Kuwait, Lawrence R. Silverman, and the rest of the command in charge of bases in Kuwait, to receive the status of the situation in the Middle East and the status of the troops.

González Colón visited military bases in Djibouti and Kuwait with a bipartisan congressional delegation to hold meetings on national security; as well as to share lunch and dinner of Thanksgiving with soldiers and missions of the Armed Forces in the area.

During the visits, the commissioner was able to share with prominent Puerto Ricans in each of the bases she visited, to whom I brought Puerto Rican coffee; on Thanksgiving he was able to share at the table with Puerto Rican soldiers and with his fellow congressmen to serve food to the troops in a gesture of respect and solidarity to be away from home during the festivities.

"A few weeks ago I had the honor of addressing those present at the baptism of the USNS Puerto Rico, a ship of the United States Navy that bears the name of our Island as a testimony of gratitude to our soldiers, brave men and women who serve in all branches of the Armed Forces to preserve the privileges of democracy. Today, in the Middle East, I meet Puerto Ricans serving our nation who follow that tradition, proud of their citizenship while remaining authentic and consistent with their culture. That fills me with pride and gives me deep satisfaction, "said the resident commissioner.
