Jenniffer González-Colón announces $ 102 million in federal funds for health programs, child care and save drinking water

Washington DC- The resident commissioner, Jenniffer González-Colón, announced new allocations of funds by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the federal Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) that add up to $ 101,923,948 to cover center expenses of infant care, health programs and scientific research.

The Environmental Protection Agency allocated $ 264,000 to the Department of Health of Puerto Rico under an assistance agreement where the EPA supports the programs of the Department to ensure the safety of drinking water on the island. These funds and the agreement are given under the federal Safe Drinking Water Act in its article 1443 section (a).

The Department of Health and Human Services will award $ 101, 659,948 under various funding programs from three of its dependencies.

Under the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA), the Department of Health of Puerto Rico will receive $ 4,484,273 for Maternal and Child Health Services. The Department of the Family of the Municipality of San Juan will receive $ 5,918,489 to help develop, organize and operate programs that provide an effective cost, appropriate and efficient medical services on a continuous basis and support for individuals and families with HIV.

The National Institute of General Medical Sciences is an entity attached to the federal Department of Health that supports basic research to increase understanding of biological processes and establishes the bases for advances in the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of diseases. The Institute allocated $ 112,500 for a breast cancer research study at the Medical Sciences Campus; $ 344,080 for research to discover the rules of DNA recognition of cardiac transcription factors; and the Mayagüez Campus of the University of Puerto Rico is assigned $ 263,691.00 under the RISE program, which seeks more students to complete doctoral degrees, in this case focused on science and engineering.

Under the Head Start and Early Head Start program of the Family and Children Administration, the Department of Family Services of the Municipality of San Juan will receive $ 14,388,208.00; the Municipality of Barceloneta $ 11,452,332.00; the Administration for the Comprehensive Care and Development of Children (ACUDEN) will receive $ 10,435,887.00; the Municipality of Humacao, two items totaling $ 9,217,410.00; the Municipality of Ponce $ 6,602,405.00; the Municipality of Caguas will receive $ 6,117,847.00; Municipality of Guayama $ 5,955,587.00; the Municipality of Guaynabo $ 3,938,427.00; the Municipality of Mayagüez will receive $ 3,927,300.00; the Municipality of Orocovis $ 3,818,099.00; the Municipality of Canóvanas $ 3,474,642.00; the Municipality of Carolina will receive $ 2,938,297.00; the Municipality of Isabela will receive $ 2,121,011.00; the Youth Services Center in Arecibo will receive $ 1,739,971.00; the Municipality of Utuado will receive $ 1,697,090.00; the Family Development Center of the Diocese of Mayagüez $ 1,571,309.00; and the Educational Workshop of Caguas will receive $ 1,141,093.00.

Jenniffer González-Colónanuncia $102 millones en fondos federales para programas de salud, cuidado infantil y asegurar agua potable

Washington DC- La comisionada residente, Jenniffer González-Colón, anunció nuevas asignaciones de fondos por parte de la Agencia de Protección Ambiental (EPA) y el Departamento de Salud y Servicios Humanos federal (HHS) que suman $101, 923,948 para cubrir gastos de centros de cuido de infantes, programas de salud e investigaciones científicas.

La Agencia de Protección Ambiental destinó $264,000 al Departamento de Salud de Puerto Rico bajo un acuerdo de asistencia donde la EPA respalda los programas del Departamento para asegurar la seguridad del agua potable en la isla. Estos fondos y el acuerdo se dan bajo la ley federal Safe Drinking Water en su artículo 1443 sección (a).

El Departamento de Salud y Servicios Humanos federal otorgará $101, 659,948 bajo diversos programas de fondos de tres de sus dependencias.

Bajo la Administración de Recursos y Servicios de Salud (HRSA) el Departamento de Salud de Puerto Rico recibirá $4,484,273 para Servicios de Salud Maternal e Infantil. El Departamento de la Familia del Municipio de San Juan recibirá $5, 918,489 para ayudar a desarrollar, organizar y operar programas que proporcionen un costo efectivo, apropiado y un servicios médicos eficientes de manera continua y apoyo para las personas y familias con el VIH.

El Instituto Nacional de Ciencias Médicas Generales es una entidad adscrita al Departamento de Salud federal que apoya la investigación básica para aumentar la comprensión de los procesos biológicos y establece las bases para los avances en el diagnóstico, tratamiento y prevención de enfermedades. El Instituto asignó $112,500 para un estudio de investigación sobre cáncer del seno del Recinto de Ciencias Médicas; $344,080 para una investigación para descubrir las reglas de reconocimiento de ADN de factores de transcripción cardiaca; y al Recinto de Mayagüez de la Universidad de Puerto Rico se le asignan $263,691.00 bajo el programa RISE que busca que más estudiantes puedan completar grados doctorales, en este caso enfocados en la ciencia e ingeniería.
