Jenniffer González Colón meets with the president of the Congress of Deputies of Spain

Madrid, Spain- The Resident Commissioner, Jenniffer González Colón, met today with President of the Congress of Deputies of Spain and third in rank in the Spanish government, Ana Pastor. The purpose of their meeting was to discuss the relations of Puerto Rico, Spain and the United States, as well as developments in the Spanish energy industry and business opportunities.
González Colón, who is the co-chair of the Friends of Spain Caucus in the United States Congress, is committed to strengthening the island's relationship with Spain as part of the economic development plan for Puerto Rico. The main objective is seeking areas of opportunity for investment in the island. The Resident Commissioner discussed with the President of the Spanish Congress the possibility of creating a group similar to the Caucus of Spain in the United States Congress. Creating this group would continue facilitating security efforts, commerce, cultural relations, and ultimately the bonds of brotherhood which have distinguished both countries.
After the passage of Hurricane Maria, we have seen how González Colón, who is a member of the American delegation to the Parliament of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), has displayed her dedication to the recovery plan of Puerto Rico. This is evident from her effort in Congress to receive federal funds by inserting an economic development plan for the Island.
The Resident Commissioner was invited by the Spain-US Council Foundation, in its capacity Caucus co-chair of the Congressional Friends of Spain for official visits forums and conferences, to discuss bilateral relations between Spain and the United States. The purpose of this invitation was to encourage trade ties with Spain, the island and the inclusion of Puerto Rico in the commercial treaty between Spain and the US. Ambassador Manuel Lejarreta, Secretary General of the council, also coordinated a meeting with the Director of the Cervantes Institute, Luis Garcia Montero. Cervantes Institute is the main propelling institution of the Spanish language in the world.
Tomorrow the Resident Commissioner will continue with a busy schedule of meetings and a presentation at several locations including Casa de América.
