Jenniffer González-Colón as part of a Congressional Delegation in the NATO Parliamentary Assembly
Warsaw, Poland - Resident Commissioner Jenniffer González Colón participates in the spring session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), as part of the bipartisan delegation of the United States House of Representatives seeks a better understanding of security and defense among the legislatures of the countries that make up NATO.
The resident commissioner participates in the session as a member of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly on behalf of the United States along with 8 other congressmen.
"It is a huge privilege to be able to be part of the representation of the United States before the deliberations of the Assembly of the NATO Parliament. Especially starting my second year in the congress, I do not know if any other commissioner had this honor. For me it is one more opportunity to continue contributing and solidifying the defense of the alliance. The United States has a leading role in global decision-making, especially on security and defense issues. These sessions of the Parliamentary Assembly allow those of us who formulate the laws in the NATO member countries to interact and discuss concerns, interests and differences and maintain the alliance between the democracies that make up the Treaty, "said the resident commissioner.
The delegation of the United States is led by the republican congressman for Ohio, Michael R Turner, who was president of the Parliamentary Assembly of NATO in 2014.
The session will be held from May 25 to 28 in Warsaw, the capital of Poland, where they will have working sessions in the Polish Parliament which is 525 years old. The agenda includes meetings with the United States Embassy in Poland and Polish government officials; and meetings with the different committees of Parliament.
The NATO Parliamentary Assembly was founded in 1955, six years after the signing of the North Atlantic Treaty. Although institutionally separated from NATO, it serves as an essential link between the Organization and the parliaments of the countries that make it up. The Assembly seeks to encourage parliamentary diplomacy to contribute to mutual agreement and strengthen democracy in the Atlantic region and beyond. 29 countries make up the assembly in ownership and will have 12 associated countries, 4 associated Mediterranean countries and 8 parliamentary observers from other countries as guests.

Comisionada Residente vuelve a hacer historia
Varsovia, Polonia- La comisionada residente, Jenniffer González Colón, participa de la sesión de primavera de la Asamblea Parlamentaria de la Organización del Tratado de Atlántico Norte (OTAN), como parte de la delegación bipartita de la Cámara de Representantes de los Estados Unidos que busca un mejor entendimiento sobre seguridad y defensa entre las legislaturas de los países que componen la OTAN.
La comisionada residente participa de la sesión como miembro de la Asamblea Parlamentaria de la OTAN en representación de los Estados Unidos junto a otros 8 congresistas.
"Es un privilegio enorme poder ser parte de la representación de los Estados Unidos ante las deliberaciones de la Asamblea del Parlamento de la OTAN. Máxime empezando mi segundo año en el Congreso, no sé si algún otro comisionado había tenido este honor. Para mí es una oportunidad más para seguir aportando y solidificando la defensa de la alianza Los Estados Unidos tiene un rol protagónico en la toma de desiciones a nivel mundial, en especial sobre los temas de seguridad y defensa. Estas sesiones de la Asamblea Parlamentaria permiten que quienes formulamos las leyes en los países miembros de la OTAN podamos interactuar y discutir sobre preocupaciones, intereses y diferencias y así mantener la alianza entre las democracias que conforman el Tratado", expresó la comisionada residente.
La sesión se celebra del 25 al 28 de mayo en Varsovia, la capital de Polonia donde tendrán sesiones de trabajo en el Parlamento polaco que cumple 525 años de fundación. La agenda incluye reuniones con la Embajada de Estados Unidos en Polonia y oficiales del gobierno polaco; y reuniones con los distintos comités del Parlamento.
La Asamblea Parlamentaria de la OTAN fue fundada en 1955, seis años después de la firma del Tratado del Atlántico Norte. Aunque institucionalmente está separada de la OTAN, sirve como enlace esencial entre la Organización y los parlamentos de los países que lo conforman. La Asamblea busca fomentar la diplomacia parlamentaria para contribuir al mutuo acuerdo y reforzar la democracia en la región del Atlántico y más allá. 29 países componen la asamblea en propiedad y contarán con 12 países asociados, 4 países mediterráneos asociados y 8 observadores parlamentarios de otros países como invitados.
