Jenniffer González-Colon rewards the artistic talent of students
Bayamón, Puerto Rico- The resident commissioner, Jenniffer González-Colón, celebrated the awarding of the Art Competition of the Congress of the United States where the work "María" of the tenth grade student Amanda I. Nazario won. Her work will be exhibited in the United States Capitol for one year, along with the winning works of all the representative districts of the nation, including the other territories.
The young woman is paid a trip with a companion to the federal capital to participate in the recognition ceremony with the young winners from across the nation.
González-Colón stressed that this year the competition broke records of participation with 52 works, last year 17 works were received. The students who participated were from public and private high schools in towns around the island such as Corozal, Lajas, Yauco, Ceiba, Guaynabo, Mayagüez, among other municipalities.
Amanda I. Nazario Kercadó, a resident of Carolina and a student at the Central Specialized Arts School, did her mixed medium work, pencil, colored ink and colored pencil in four days after arriving from school. The student describes her work as "the face of a girl who demonstrates the emotions caused by the passage of the hurricane; you can see woods, palms, poles of light moved by the wind along with your hair ".
The activity was carried out in the Science Park of Bayamon with the participation of the mayor, Ramón Luis Rivera Cruz, and the members of the jury that evaluated the works, headed by the teacher Carmelo Sobrino; Raiza Fernández, director of History and Culture of the Municipality of Bayamon; and Maria del Mar Caragol, director of Plastic Arts of the Institute of Puerto Rican Culture.
The winners this year in Puerto Rico of the Congressional Art Competition are:
Honorable Mention: Ileana Ramirez Ramos of Notre Dame Catholic College; Fernando Cruz Market of the Carlos González High School; Iván Correa Quiles from the Adolfina Irizarry School in Puig; Julia Alicea Cabrera of the Central Special School of Visual Arts; and Alondra Díaz Serrano from Saint Francis School.
The third place was Daniela Irizarry Rosario of the Central School of Visual Arts with her work "To each guaraguao her pitirre arrives"; the second place was for Belianne Rivera Ferrer of the School of Fine Arts Ernesto Ramos Antonini with her work "El terruño de Mamá; and the first place was for Amanda Nazario Kercadó with her work "Maria" of the Central School of Visual Arts.
Since 1982, the United States Congress celebrates the art competition dubbed "An Artistic Discovery" where high school students from all 50 states and territories are invited.

Joven carolinense exhibirá su obra "María" en el Capitolio federal
Bayamón, Puerto Rico- La comisionada residente, Jenniffer González-Colón, celebró la premiación de la Competencia de Arte del Congreso de los Estados Unidos donde resultó ganadora la obra "María" de la estudiante de décimo grado Amanda I. Nazario. Su obra se exhibirá en el Capitolio de los Estados Unidos por un año, junto a las obras ganadores de todos los distritos representativos de la nación, incluyendo los demás territorios.
A la joven se le paga un viaje con un acompañante a la capital federal para que participe de la ceremonia de reconocimiento junto a los jóvenes ganadores de toda la nación.
González-Colón destacó que este año la competencia rompió récords de participación con 52 obras, el pasado año se recibieron 17 trabajos. Los estudiantes que participaron fueron de escuelas superior públicas y privadas de pueblos alrededor de la isla como Corozal, Lajas, Yauco, Ceiba, Guaynabo, Mayagüez entre otros municipios.
Amanda I. Nazario Kercadó, residente de Carolina y estudiante de la Escuela Especializada Central de Artes hizo su obra medio mixto, lápiz, tinta a color y lápiz de colores en cuatro días luego de llegar de la escuela. La estudiante describe su trabajo como "el rostro de una niña que demuestra las emociones causadas por el paso del huracán; se ven maderas, palmas, postes de luz movidos por el viento junto con su cabello".
La actividad se efectúo en el Parque de las Ciencias de Bayamón con la participación del alcalde, Ramón Luis Rivera Cruz, y los miembros del jurado que evaluaron las obras, encabezado por el maestro Carmelo Sobrino; Raiza Fernández, directora de Historia y Cultura del Municipio de Bayamón; y María del Mar Caragol, directora de Artes Plásticas del Instituto de Cultura Puertorriqueña.
Los ganadores este año en Puerto Rico de la Competencia de Arte Congresional son:
Mención Honorífica: Ileana Ramirez Ramos del Colegio Católico Notre Dame; Fernando Cruz Mercado de la Escuela Superior Doctor Carlos González; Iván Correa Quiles de la Escuela Adolfina Irizarry de Puig; Julia Alicea Cabrera de la Escuela Especializada Central de Artes Visuales; y Alondra Díaz Serrano de Saint Francis School.
El tercer lugar fue Daniela Irizarry Rosario de la Escuela Central de Artes Visuales con su obra "A cada guaraguao le llega su pitirre"; el segundo lugar fue para Belianne Rivera Ferrer de la Escuela de Bellas Artes Ernesto Ramos Antonini con su obra "El terruño de Mamá; y el primer lugar fue para Amanda Nazario Kercadó con su obra "Maria" de la Escuela Central de Artes Visuales.
Desde 1982, el Congreso de los Estados Unidos celebra la competencia de arte bautizada como "An Artistic Discovery" donde invitan a estudiantes de escuela superior de los 50 estados y territorios.
