Jenniffer González-Colón Statement on Adjournment of Natural Resources Oversight and Investigations Subcommittee Hearing

February 26, 2019

Washington, D.C. – Congresswoman González-Colón issued the following statement after she voted in favor of a privileged resolution adjourning today's Natural Resources Oversight and Investigations Subcommittee hearing titled The Denial Playbook: How Industries Manipulate Science and Policy From Climate Change to Public Health.

"The Oversight and Investigations Subcommittee adjourned its hearing today given how its subject matter fell outside of the jurisdiction of the House Natural Resources Committee. Issue areas related to industry and research regulations fall explicitly under the jurisdiction of either the House Committee on Energy and Commerce or the House Committee on Science, Space and Technology, and should be evaluated by subject matter experts within those respective committees.

However, I appreciate all the witnesses for coming to testify before the Committee and I urge my colleagues that their testimonies are considered by the Committees of jurisdiction. I am particularly thankful for Ms. Alexandra Precup's statement, who I reached out to after the Committee adjourned, to find ways to work together for the recovery of Puerto Rico. As someone who also experienced the hurricane on the Island, I can attest to the harrowing sights that followed the storm's devastation. I welcome and look forward to working with her, as well as all those interested in Puerto Rico's recovery process, to assess areas where improvement is still needed and how we can move towards that direction."
