Jenniffer Gonzalez Colon takes U.S. Senator Jeff Merkley (D-Oregon) to the Cantera Peninsula
San Juan, Puerto Rico- The resident commissioner, Jenniffer González Colón, took the Democratic Senator from the State of Oregon, Jeff Merkley, to the Cantera Peninsula to witness first-hand the vicissitudes of the community and the help that they need to recover after Hurricane Maria.
The senator, member of the powerful committees of Assignments, Budget, Foreign Affairs, Environment and Public Works, informed the commissioner of his interest in helping Puerto Rico and wanted to visit the island to better understand what happened and how the government could help best.
The commissioner immediately accepted the senator's invitation to speak before members of the Senate Appropriations Committee, to continue advocating for help for the island.
During the trip to the Cantera Peninsula, former Commissioner Sila María Calderón, Senators Miguel Romero and Henry Neuman accompanied the commissioner and the senator, as well as the district representative, Eddie Charbonier.
The commissioner continues to seek to join efforts for the recovery of Puerto Rico in a bipartisan manner, today with the visit of the Democratic Senator from Oregon, Jeff Merkley, and tomorrow with the visit of the president of the Subcommittee on Insular Affairs in the Federal Chamber, the Republican congressman for California, Doug LaMalfa and also a member of the Committee on Agriculture.
Senator Merkley continues with his agenda that includes a report by FEMA on the status of the recovery of Puerto Rico. The commissioner will also take the senator to the municipality of Yabucoa, one of the municipalities most affected by the hurricane and that have less power, for inspection of the power grid and other damages. The senator will see firsthand the efforts on the island and separated Friday and Saturday to make the tour with the commissioner among other visits.
While tomorrow, Saturday, the commissioner will travel with Doug LaMalfa facilities of the Conservation Trust of Puerto Rico, in the area of coffee processing on the island, among other meetings.

San Juan, Puerto Rico- La comisionada residente, Jenniffer González Colón, llevó al senador demócrata por el estado de Oregon, Jeff Merkley, a la Península de Cantera para que fuera testigo de primera mano de las vicisitudes de la comunidad y de la ayuda que necesitan para su recuperación luego del huracán María.
El senador, miembro de los poderosos comités de Asignaciones, Presupuesto, Relaciones Exteriores, Ambiente y Obras Públicas, le comunicó a la comisionada su interés de ayudar a Puerto Rico y quiso visitar la isla para comprender mejor lo que pasó y como el gobierno podría ayudar mejor.
La comisionada aceptó de inmediato la invitación que le hizo el senador de hablar ante los miembros de Comité de Apropiaciones del Senado, para continuar abogando por ayuda para la isla.
En el recorrido en la Península de Cantera, acompañaron a la comisionada y al senador la exgobernadora Sila María Calderón, los senadores Miguel Romero y Henry Neuman, así como el representante del distrito, Eddie Charbonier.
La comisionada continúa buscando aunar esfuerzos para la recuperación de Puerto Rico de manera bipartita, hoy con la visita del senador demócrata por Oregon, Jeff Merkley, y mañana con la visita del presidente de la Subcomisión de Asuntos Insulares en la Cámara federal, el congresista republicano por California, Doug LaMalfa y también miembro del Comité de Agricultura.
El senador Merkley continúa con su agenda que incluye un informe por parte de FEMA sobre el estatus de la recuperación de Puerto Rico. La comisionada también llevará al senador al municipio de Yabucoa, uno de los municipios más afectados por el huracán y que cuentan con menos energización, para inspección de la red eléctrica y otros daños. El senador verá de primera mano los esfuerzos en la isla y separó viernes y sábado para hacer el recorrido junto a la comisionada entre otras visitas.
Mientras que mañana sábado, la comisionada recorrerá junto a Doug LaMalfa instalaciones del Fideicomiso de Conservación de Puerto Rico, en el área de procesamiento del café en la isla, entre otros encuentros.
