Jenniffer González defends Puerto Ricans’ right to equality

San Juan, Puerto Rico- Congresswoman Jenniffer González-Colón, reaffirmed that Puerto Rico will become a state and emphasized that the civil rights of the American citizens living in Puerto Rico should never be used like a political football.
"Achieving equality for the American citizens who live in Puerto Rico is not a matter of the Democrats agenda, it is our fundamental right enshrined in the federal Constitution where we must all be treated equally under the law.
The Republican platform and past Republican presidents have endorsed statehood for Puerto Rico, including Ronald Reagan, Gerald Ford, and George H.W. Bush. It is sad and unacceptable that the issue of equality for Puerto Rico is being politicized, by either party.
The blood shed by the sons and daughters of this land for defending the values of the longest-lived democracy in our history around the world, was not shed as Republicans or Democrats, but as Americans! Senator McConnell, stop dishonoring the memory of our fallen heroes precisely for defending the democratic rights and individual freedoms that fosters our great nation. "
