Jenniffer González joins bipartisan efforts for security in Puerto Rico

Congressmen are interested in the health of the veterans on the island

San Juan, Puerto Rico- Congresswoman Jenniffer González Colón along with several congressmen that are visiting Puerto Rico, discussed the needs to reinforce security on the island with Captain King of the Coast Guard and the the directors of the Veterans Hospital to learn about services offered to the veterans .

The congresswoman began the day with a meeting at the facilities of the San Juan Sector of the Coast Guard with the Captain of the Port, Eric King, and the congressmen for California, Carbajal Health (Dtto. 24), Lou Correa (Dtto. 46) and Mike Levin (Dtto.49).

There they discussed the activities of the Coast Guard in relation to surveillance, drug seizures, interventions on the high seas and the needs of the body to intensify work on safety.

The visit is part of the efforts of the congresswoman to identify resources and establish strategies at the federal level to combat crime on the island; efforts such as seeking bipartisan support with the congressmen, negotiations with federal agencies, and met with the Secretary of the Department of National Security, the FBI in Puerto Rico and has sent communications in this regard.

On Saturday, González Colón, along with members of the Committee of Veterans of the House of Representatives of the United States, including its president Mark Takano, visited the Veterans Hospital where they discussed the needs of the institution, the services offered at the facility as well as in the clinics around the island and shared with several patients.

In addition to Gonzalez and the president of the Veterans Committee, Takano, the other congressmen present were Katherine Clark (MA), Carbajal Health (CA), Lou Correa (CA), Gilbert Cisneros (CA), Veronica Escobar (TX), Mike Levin (CA) ) and Gregorio Sablan (MP).

González Colón was the first resident commissioner to serve on the Committee, achieving in the last Congress the first public hearing of the Committee of Veterans on the island and eight federal laws of their co-authorship in favor of this population.
