Jenniffer González puts forth the goals of House Intergovernmental Affairs Task Force at its inaugural meeting
Washington DC- The US House of Representatives Speaker's Task Force on Intergovernmental Affairs, created with the goal of a better balance of powers between the federal and the state, local and tribal governments, held its first public hearing today with the participation of Puerto Rico Resident Commissioner Jenniffer González-Colón.
The Resident Commissioner, a member of the Task Force who as a state legislator was very active in the leadership of the Council of State Governments (CSG), one of the organizations who make up the Task Force's Advisory Council, gave faith in the hearing of how Puerto Rico benefitted from having achieved equal treatment with the states in CSG; as such she pointed out how "it is so very important to have the states be able to make policies that serve their people and share information to adopt best practices."
"This Task Force will seek to empower those levels of government closest to the people, and to know what are the real needs of local governments that require federal attention", stated González-Colón, who during her turn invited the organizations to provide their specific concerns as to areas in which the federal government power may be encroaching rather than helping local governments.
The first hearing of the US House of Representatives Speaker's Task Force on Intergovernmental Affairs counted with the presence of Speaker Paul Ryan himself, who entrusted its work to Congressman Rob Bishop as Chairman of the Task Force.
Today the committee heard presentations from four of the seven member organizations of the Task Force Advisory Council: National Association of Counties, National Governors Association, Council of State Governments and National League of Cities.
With González-Colón (PR) and Chairman Bishop (UT-1) another five Republican congressmen form the majority delegation in the Task Force: Gary Palmer (AL-6); Luke Messer (IN-6); Mark Walker (NC-6); John Culberson (TX-7); y Lee Zeldin (NY-1).
The Democratic delegation is composed of Representatives Richard Neal (MA-1); Raúl Grijalva (AZ-3); Gerry Connolly (VA-11); Norma Torres (CA-35): Anthony Brown (MD-4) y Charlie Crist (13-FL).

Jenniffer González resalta los objetivos del Grupo de Trabajo Intergubernamental del Congreso en su primera reunión
Washington DC- El Grupo de Trabajo en Asuntos Intergubernamentales del Presidente de la Cámara de Representantes federal, creado con el objetivo de crear un mejor balance el poder entre el gobierno federal y los gobiernos estatales, municipales y tribales, tuvo su vista inaugural hoy, donde participó la comisionada residente, Jenniffer González Colón.
La comisionada residente, miembro del Grupo de Trabajo y quien cuando fue legisladora estatal estuvo muy activa en el liderato del Consejo de Gobierno Estatales (CSG, por sus siglas en inglés), una de las organizaciones que forman el Cuerpo Asesor del Grupo, dio testimonio en la vista de cómo Puerto Rico se benefició al lograr ser tratado en condiciones de igualdad dentro del CSG; por lo que apuntó a que "es bien importante que los estados estén habilitados para hacer políticas públicas que sirvan a su gente y compartan información para adoptar las mejores prácticas".
"Este Task Force buscará cómo empoderar aquellos niveles de gobierno más cercanos al pueblo y conocer cuáles son las verdaderas necesidades de los gobiernos locales que requieran atención federal", dijo González Colón, quien en su turno invitó a las organizaciones a hacer llegar sus preocupaciones específicas sobre en qué áreas el poder federal pueda estar entorpeciendo en vez de ayudando a los gobiernos locales.
La primera vista pública del Grupo de Trabajo para el Presidente de la Cámara de Representantes federal en Asuntos Intergubernamentales, contó con la participación del propio Speaker Paul Ryan quien dejó los trabajos en mano del congresista Rob Bishop, presidente del Task Force.
Hoy depusieron ante el comité cuatro de las siete organizaciones que integran el Consejo Asesor del Grupo de Trabajo: National Association of Counties, National Governors Association, Council of State Governments y National League of Cities.
Junto a González Colón, integran el Grupo de Trabajo otros seis congresistas republicanos:, Rob Bishop (Distrito 1 de Utah) quien fue designado como el presidente del Grupo de Trabajo; Gary Palmer (Distrito 6 de Alabama); Luke Messer (Distrito 6 de Indiana); Mark Walker (Distrito 6 de Carolina del Norte); John Culberson (Distrito 7 de Texas); y Lee Zeldin (Distrito 1 de Nueva York).
Por el lado demócrata están: Richard Neal (Distrito 1 de Massachusetts); Raúl Grijalva (Distrito 3 de Arizona); Gerry Connolly (Distrito 11 de Virginia); Norma Torres (Distrito 35 de California): Anthony Brown (Distrito 4 de Maryland); y Charlie Crist (Distrito 13 de Florida).
