Jenniffer González welcomes presidential appointment for US Attorney for the District of Puerto Rico

Washington, DC- Congresswoman Jenniffer González Colón, welcomed the nomination of W. Stephen Muldrow by the President of the United States, Donald J. Trump, to serve as the U.S. Attorney for the District of Puerto Rico, after Rosa Emilia Rodríguez, announced her intention to retire in December.

"The person who occupies the U.S. Attorney's Office in Puerto Rico will have two challenges: maintain the fight against crime and drug trafficking and continue the steps of the current U.S. Attorney's Office in Puerto Rico, Rosa Emilia Rodriguez. I have interviewed several candidates for this seat, including Mr. W. Stephen Muldrow. His service career in both Puerto Rico and Florida enables him to continue the complex prosecution operation on the island from day one. His human quality emerges as soon as you meet him, as well as his vision and commitment to the island, "said the Congresswoman.

President Trump today sent the nomination to the federal Senate for due process of advice and consent of appointment.

Mr. Muldrow has a bachelor's degree in economics from Bucknell University; a Juris Doctor from the American University at the Washington College of Law; and Master's Degree in Law and International Affairs with Latin American Studies, from the American University's School of International Service.

His experience as a lawyer began 30 years ago at the U.S. Department of Justice when he joined the Tax Division in 1989. He served as a trial attorney in the Civil Trials Section of the Tax Division of the Northern Region, and he also served as Assistant U.S. Attorney in the Criminal Division of the U.S. Attorney's Office for the District of Puerto Rico.

Since March 2001, Mr. Muldrow has served at the United States Attorney's Office for the Middle District of Florida in a variety of capacities, starting as an Assistant U.S. Attorney in the Office's Criminal Division from 2001 to 2012.

Over the past eight years, Mr. Muldrow has also served as Senior Litigation Counsel, Chief of the Major Crimes Section, and First Assistant U.S. Attorney in the United States Attorney's Office for the Middle District of Florida.

Among the awards and recognitions he has received the 1992 most outstanding Attorney Award from the Department of Justice Tax Division.

While in the U.S. Attorney's Office in Puerto Rico, he received 12 awards for his exceptional contributions and service, including: five awards for Outstanding Contributions to the Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Force (OCDETF); two awards for Outstanding Contributions in the Field of Drug Law Enforcement; three awards for Outstanding Contributions to Puerto Rico's High Intensity Drug Trafficking Areas (HIDTA) Task Force.

He has received seven awards during his service at the U.S. Attorney's Office in Tampa for his Outstanding Contributions in the Field of Drug Law Enforcement, as well as for his contributions to OCDETF Operations and HIDTA Task Forces.
