Resident Commissioner meets with Puerto Rican leaders at Alliance Community Healthcare

Newark, New Jersey- Resident Commissioner Jenniffer González Colón visited the health center Alliance Community Healthcare where she was part of a roundtable with leaders of the Puerto Rican community of New Jersey. The congresswoman was accompanied by Lydia Valencia, president of the Puerto Rican Congress of New Jersey.

At the round table they discussed the medical services offered to Puerto Ricans who were displaced in New Jersey after Hurricane Maria passed through the island. The center offers services of primary care, reproductive health, specialized health and dentists; More than 600 Puerto Ricans received assistance from the center from medical care and therapies to housing and furniture assistance.

"I acknowledge and appreciate the great work and leadership that Alliance Community Healthcare had with the Puerto Rican community that arrived in New Jersey after Maria and the work they continue to do," said the commissioner.

As part of the visit, González Colón recognized the work done by the health institution and the aid offered to the Puerto Ricans who had to leave the island after the catastrophe. Gonzalez was accompanied by Dennis Gonzalez, officials of the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS, for its acronym in English) of the United States and the directors of the center: Margarita Cruz, Anthony C. Ferreri, Tanya Pagan and Francisco Santiago.
