Resident Commissioner presents legislation to recognize the 65th Infantry Regiment officially designating its name to federal institution

May 26, 2018

Washington DC- The resident commissioner, Jenniffer González-Colón, introduced legislation so that formally the mail placed on Alondra Street at San Juan, is named as the Building of the Postal Office, 65th Infantry Regiment.

"This mail building is commonly referred to as the 65th Post, because of its proximity to 65th Avenue Infantry; however, it had never been formally named. The postal service owns the building and confirmed the availability to be given a name through the congressional route. With the project we would like to formalize the name and continue to honor the service and sacrifice of our veterans, the Borinqueneers, "said the resident commissioner.

The Puerto Rico Chapter of the Military Order of World Wars unanimously endorsed the initiative of the resident commissioner by stating that "this proposal reinforces the recognition granted with the consent of the President and the Congress with the Gold Medal of the Congress. Today, South Korea is a free nation, and a peace agreement is now being settled with North Korea, largely because of the historic sacrifices of the 65th Regiment during the Korean conflict. "

HR 5937 submitted by the resident commissioner now passes to the Committee on Oversight and Government Reform that has jurisdiction over this type of project.
