Statement of the Resident Commissioner congratulating the Governor of Puerto Rico on agreement on the budget

"I congratulate the Governor of Puerto Rico, Ricardo Rosselló, for the openness to a constant dialogue that has resulted in a positive agreement for Puerto Rico. That leadership and the opening of the Board have been key to protect the rights of our workers in the public and private sectors.

Our island needs stability, confidence and to straighten out the fiscal setback that we inherited from the previous administration. Likewise, the protections achieved by the governor will maintain the Christmas bonus of our employees among other necessary resources.

The agreements provide the basis for the new tax reform that should accelerate our economy further. In a negotiation, we do not always get 100 percent of what we want, but in this we must recognize that the governor managed, for the good of Puerto Rico, to reach an agreement achieving almost all of what we were looking for.

With the agreement reached, not only more expensive litigation for the government is avoided, but all efforts can be directed towards the recovery and development of the island. Thank you Mr. Governor. "

(21 de mayo de 2018-Washington DC) "Felicito al gobernador de Puerto Rico, Ricardo Rosselló por la apertura a un diálogo constante que ha redundado en un acuerdo positivo para Puerto Rico. Ese liderato y la apertura de la Junta han sido claves para proteger los derechos de nuestros trabajadores del sector público y privado.

Nuestra isla necesita estabilidad, confianza y enderezar el descalabro fiscal que heredamos de la administración anterior. Igualmente, las protecciones logradas por el gobernadormantendrán el bono de Navidad de nuestros empleados entre otros recursos necesarios. Los acuerdos sientan las bases para la nueva reforma contributiva que deberá acelerar más nuestra economía. En una negociación no siempre se sale con el cien por ciento de lo que se quiere, pero en esta debemos reconocer que el gobernador logró, por el bien de Puerto Rico, llegar a un acuerdo logrando casi la totalidad de lo que buscábamos. Con el acuerdo logrado no solo se evitan más litigios onerosos para el gobierno, sino que todos los esfuerzos pueden encaminarse en la recuperación y el desarrollo de la isla. Gracias señor Gobernador".
