Statement of Resident Commissioner Jenniffer González Colón on the arrest of former governor Wanda Vázquez
San Juan, Puerto Rico- "The accusation of any public official is a despicable event that damages the trust of the people in its institutions and surprises and hurts even more if the accused held the highest government position on the island.
It is frustrating and disappointing that "public servants" abuse their positions to favor people who are willing to pay.
That is precisely political investment, using fraudulent schemes to finance campaigns. As stated by the Director of the Public Integrity Section of the U.S. Department of Justice, the alleged corporate corruption and of elected official is not foreign to Puerto Rico and is a trend in the states; however, this act of bribery and corruption in which public officials left morality and good judgment behind does not cease to create anger and indignation.
I deeply appreciate the work that the FBI and the US Attorney's Office have been carrying out to ensure compliance with law and order in government and that they are always the ones to uncover the rot. Public service has to be synonymous with honesty, whoever uses it for personal gain has to be repudiated”.

4 de agosto de 2022- San Juan, Puerto Rico- “La acusación de todo funcionario público es un suceso despreciable que lacera la confianza del pueblo en sus instituciones y sorprende y duele más aún si el acusado ocupó el cargo gubernamental más alto en la isla.
Es frustrante y decepcionante que “servidores públicos” abusen de sus posiciones para favorecer a personas que estén dispuestas a pagar. Eso precisamente es inversionismo político, utilizando esquemas de defraudación en el financiamiento de campañas.
Como dijo el director de la división de integridad pública del Departamento de Justicia federal, la alegada corrupción corporativa y de oficiales electos no es ajena a Puerto Rico y es tendencia en los estados; sin embargo, no deja de crear rabia e indignación este acto de soborno y corrupción en donde funcionarios públicos dejaron atrás la moral y el buen juicio.
Agradezco profundamente el trabajo que ha estado llevando a cabo el FBI y la Fiscalía Federal por velar por el cumplimiento de la ley y orden en el gobierno y que sean siempre los que destapan la podredumbre.
El servicio público tiene que ser sinónimo de honestidad, quien lo utilice para beneficiarse personalmente tiene que ser repudiado”.
